Howto Search And Replace Text in files Recursively on Ubuntu Linux

I just found a new tool called regexxer, im sure it has been around for a while but I just discovered it.
regexxer is a nifty GUI search/replace tool featuring Perl-style regular expressions. If you need project-wide substitution and you’re tired of hacking sed command lines together, then you should definitely give it a try.
simply apt-get install regexxer

Can you recommend a source to learn regular expressions? It seems a bit overwhelming - is that just me?

It is overwhelming, but the only way to learn is to do. Start with the basics like standard search and replace (which is probably when you want to use regexp.)

http://www.amk.ca/python/howto/regex/ starts basic and gets to the advance stuff very quickly. The basics are fairly simple, yet powerful, and the advance stuff is difficult but adds the more power to it. The link has amk/python specifics (ignore that part), but regexp is pretty similar and usable in different applications.
Thanks for tooltip!
