Previously I did a very quick howto for installing google earth which includes a nice video here
I will show you a much easier way to install Google Earth in 3 easy steps:

1. Open a terminal, yes that black screen that may scare you or thrill you :)
Applications->Accessories->Terminal

Now copy/paste these commands:
2.
Paste this If you are installing Google Earth on Ubuntu Hardy Heron:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

Paste this if you are Installing Google Earth on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

Paste this if you are Installing Google Earth on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/feisty.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

3. Copy/paste the last command that will update your repo's install the security key ring then finally install google earth :)

Why not just use the installer supplied by Google?
I don't see this as being the easiest way. I just downloaded from their website, right-click -> permissions -> allow to run as executable. Then just open like any other file and follow the wizard.

No fancy-shmancy terminal copy-paste idk whats going on kind of thing. Plus u got a lot of "sudo's" there.
I imagine the difference is that this way updates will be handled by the system's package updater (eg adept) rather than having to reinstall manually?
You know, I thought this was the one I tried the other night, but it isn't. I agree with the above comments, just using their site install is the same. The one I tried (and lost by messing with my system) the other night had amazing graphics, started with a nice view of the earth and worked flawlessly. This one gives me a view of the stars and all of the places and content is missing. I'll keep looking...
