Introducing Songbird Media Player 1.0

Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that's under active development, its one of my favorite music players, check it out

The songbird team is working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music.

Songbird now uses GStreamer as our main media playback system, across all platforms.

Subscribe to music blogs and download music directly to your library. We're working on ways to improve this feature.

  • Performance & Stability

Improving the performance and stability of Songbird is an ongoing focus. Each release we set aside dedicated cycles to ensure we're making progress.

Can't wait to see it in the repos!
My media buttons are not working with it. And it uses to much processor time for a mediaplayer.
But I like it a lot.
It works with ipod?

Sure!

It is already install by default, but if it's not just click install on the add-on and and restart songbird.
Modzilla Style!
It is nice. The idea to use a great deal of Mozilla technology made this quite cross-platform indeed.

It still needs work in some areas. As far as I could tell, there was no auto-update feature for the collection. You know the one I mean... it doesn't seem to watch your music directories and automatically add/remove media the way Amarok does. Make that, and I'm pretty sure I'll be a full convert. That and they need to get multimedia key support going.

Note: If indeed it DOES monitor folders, tell me how.

Yaro: Songbird 1.1 has a feature called Watch Folders that tracks everything that happens on disk. You can turn it on in the Media Import preferences. The 1.1 beta is available here http://blog.songbirdnest.com/
