The new Face to VLC Media Player 0.9.0git!

VLC to me is the best player for Movies, Videos, DVD's, and DiVX! Well its time for everyone to upgrade vlc because there is Multiple vulnerabilities found allowing for the execution of arbitrary code and Denial of Service. But ya know? Im glade I had to upgrade lol, vlc added a whole new face a ton of bug fixes and a few new features :) I'll show you how to install VLC in Ubuntu and setup the Nightly build VideoLan VLC Repository, check it out:

How to Install or upgrade VLC Media Player for Ubuntu Hardy

For Ubuntu Hardy I386 add the following line to your sources.list, or add it to System->Administration->Software Sources:
deb http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/hardy-i386/arch ./

Then open up Synaptic and click "Reload", if you already have vlc installed click "Mark all Upgrades" Then click apply then ok. Or simply search for VLC if its not installed, check it and apply.

Want it to install it even easier? Click Here for a 1 click install within Firefox!
The 1-Click install only works after you have updated your repositories and you must use firefox

  1. I hated VLC's interface.

The new one looks *somewhat* better.

  3. Anyone know if the special "media control" keys on my keyboard will start working with VLC now? That's the only thing that has kept me from making it my main player up to now.

  4. go into settings, you can specify exactly what media control keys you want, also go to system, preferences keyboard shortcuts to set them up :)

  5. looks like some win3.11 media player from 1994, sorry but this interface is ridiculous in both looks and design.

  8. Mine installs the current 0.8.6c build fine (The one in synaptic), but when I try 0.9.0git it won't install, talking about a ton of dependencies that can't be fixed (I think because I don't have the right software source for beta stuff).

    Specifically it says:

    vlc:
Depends: libc6 (>=2.7-1) but 2.6.1-1ubuntu10 is to be installed
Depends: libcaca0 (>=0.99.beta13b-1) but 0.99.beta11.debian-3 is to be installed
Depends: libcairo2 (>=1.5.12) but 1.4.10-1ubuntu4.4 is to be installed
Depends: libcdio7 but it is not installable
Depends: libcucul0 (>=0.99.beta13b-1) but 0.99.beta11.debian-3 is to be installed
Depends: libfribidi0 (>=0.10.9) but 0.10.7-4build1 is to be installed
Depends: libiso9660-5 but it is not installable
Depends: libpango1.0-0 (>=1.20.0) but 1.18.3-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
Depends: libqt4-core (>=4.3.4) but 4.3.2-0ubuntu3.2 is to be installed
Depends: libqt4-gui (>=4.3.4) but 4.3.2-0ubuntu3.2 is to be installed
Depends: libvlc1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libwxbase2.6-0 (>=2.6.3.2.2) but 2.6.3.2.1.5ubuntu12 is to be installed
Depends: libwxgtk2.6-0 (>=2.6.3.2.2) but 2.6.3.2.1.5ubuntu12 is to be installed
Depends: vlc-nox but it is not going to be installed

    Thoughts?

  9. Have the same issue. In Gutsy, I'm unable to update vlc with the same dependencies missing as above
