Xdrive® Desktop Lite install file (http://xdrive.com/downloads/)
Windows Beta3 installer for Adobe Air (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html)
WINE (I used 0.9.54)
Cant find adobe air?
wget http://ubuntu-debs.googlecode.com/files/air_b3_win_121207.exe
OK. Go to your command line, get to the directory of the executable downloaded and do:
"wine air_b3_win_121207.exe
"
(This is the filename that I downloaded off of the Adobe Labs site)
This will bring up the installer. Go through the prompts and it will say that it installed fine.
Now, we need to install the Xdrive® Desktop Lite client. To do this, we have to run the install air application executable located in the Adobe Air folder in your "C Drive"
/home/
wine "Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer.exe"

Now you will be asked a few questions, simply click install!
Next you will be asked where to install and it will ask you if you want to save an icon on the desktop, select yes and then uncheck run after installer finishes.
Once it is installed you can double-click the "Xdrive Desktop Lite" icon on the desktop with a wine glass.

Once you run it this is how it will appear!

After you Login you can upload/download and copy/paste, add/remove folders in Xdrive :)
Here is more information on Xdrive® Desktop Lite from the official Xdrive Website

I tried to use these instructions to install twhirl (http://www.twhirl.org/) but the installer seems to hang once I've selected the twhirl AIR file. Not sure what it's waiting for, it doesn't appear to be using any resources.
ReplyDeletegarethj yea it seems that is 1 app that is problematic unfortunately, im going to take a look into it further
ReplyDeleteDid you try creating AIR Apps in Aptana under Ubuntu? I don't know but is it possible?
ReplyDeleteNone of this seems to work:
ReplyDelete* The link to Adobe Labs leads to a 404.
* And if you try http://labs.adobe.com/downloads there is no Air option.
* If you try to download Air from the main labs.adobe.com page, it detects Linux and won't let you continue.
* Downloading Xdrive Lite from the xdrive site tries to get Air first and fails there.
I wonder if Adobe changed their site since this was posted?
Yes, I had to download using IE on Linux so it wouldn't detect my OS correctly.
ReplyDeletei tried to download xdrive lite, but AOL tries to force AIR on me instead... it won't let me actually download the .AIR file...
ReplyDeleteI was able to download the AIR 1.0 from http://get.adobe.com/air/ using Opera, selecting "Mask as Internet Explorer" as browser identification for the site.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I was interested in installing twhirl which failed as described by others.
It works great in my Hardy Heron 8.04 Beta.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this intresting howto.
Xdrive Desktop Lite also works fine with AIR for Linux. Wine is no longer necessary.
